Editing
There is a general misconception that editing is simply putting your clips in the correct order; this is not true. Editing is the selecting of footage, rendering of footage, the cutting and cropping of clips, match-cutting, cross-cutting and thus, the creation of meaning.
Placing two film clips together creates a symbiotic relationship between the two and can create the effect that the two stories are linked together. The discovery of this type of parrallel story telling gave birth to the narrative film. Editing is everything.
TASK: Today you are going to upload your films to your computers / iMacs and begin to edit them. Once all your footage has been uploaded you need to consider the following.
- Matching the clip to the sound (take the audio from the advert)
- Ensure no background sound has crept through in the audio.
- Select only the best footage.
- Crop your footage to meet the requirements.
By the end of this lesson you should have your entire project uploaded and editing into the correct order.
If you are finished; upload the video to your blog and begin writing an in-depth evaluation about the project as a whole. Think about the problems that you may face when it comes to your assessed project.
- Skills you have learned.
- Positives from the project.
- Areas to improve.
Break down your evaluation into the various sections:
- Wear brown shoes after six
- Wear a hat indoors
- Wear a short skirt after 40
- Wear a short skirt if you're a man
- Try too hard
- Don't try at all.
- Dress like a girl
- Dress like a man
- Dress like a teen
- Stand out / Blend in
- Mix prints
- Wear pink and red
