Making Media: Statement of Intent

Outlining your ideas ahead of your production work is an important part of the Making Media process. The brief demands that you write a Statement of Intent, fully explaining all of your plans for a website and music video, using the media theoretical framework:

  • Media Language
  • Media Audiences
  • Media Industries
  • Media Representations

Here is an example Statement of Intent from an AS Media student.
Notice how he splits his ideas into the four area from the Media Theoretical Framework.

It asks these two questions:

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)

Task: You need to write a first draft of your Statement of Intent, using the brief and your research to outline exactly what your initial plans are for your two products and how they will link together as a brand concept. Post this to your blog and print a copy of it to hand in.

Use your Statement of Intent to highlight the gaps in your planning and to work out what planning or further research you will need to complete during the half-term break. You will be given an opportunity to improve your Statement of Intent after the break, as a final draft, before beginning to design your website.
